The Wine

Dark and lively, with the unmistakable energy of old vines grown close to the sky. From the same 1982 blocks that built this estate, the 2023 leads with blackberry, dried cherry, and plum, then turns unexpected — fennel, anise, and a touch of warm vanilla. The acidity is impressive for a Zinfandel at this ripeness, keeping the wine focused and driven from first sip to last. A wine with personality and staying power.

The Vineyard

From the estate’s 1982 plantings — 7+ acres of old-vine Zinfandel in red volcanic Boomer Loam at nearly 1,000 feet, interplanted with Primitivo since 1997. Among the oldest Zinfandel in active production in Dry Creek Valley.

The Winemaking

Winemaker Mike Lucia. Aged 18 months in American oak, half of it new. 15.2% alcohol.

Food Pairing

Grilled ribeye. Slow-smoked ribs. Aged cheddar. A good lamb burger.
